Rosa DeLauro Visit

On Monday March 1, 2010 U. S. Representative Rosa L. DeLauro visited St. Francis Home for Children’s Jimmy Miller Center. Operating out of the Jimmy Miller Center is the boys’ Youth Center for Respite and Enrichment and the New Haven Family Support Center. The Congresswoman toured the facility and greeted program participants with smiles and encouragement in support of the reauthorization of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA). Reauthorization of the JJDPA will allow cities
such as New Haven to continue to respond to the needs of young people who violated rules and have committed crimes offering essential services such as family support, residential care, case management, and mental health referrals. In the long run such programs save lives and money. According to DeLauro, these centers work day in and day out to give the kids another chance to reach their fullest potential as members of society. She further stated these programs are the first line of defense.
